M. Ravisankar was elected Deputy Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 12 May 2026, becoming the fifteenth person to hold the post. His was the only nomination filed, and the House confirmed him without a division. J. C. D. Prabhakar was elected Speaker in the same sitting.
The Deputy Speaker is chosen by the Assembly itself rather than appointed, and presides over the House whenever the Speaker is absent, carrying the same authority over proceedings and order in the chamber during that time.
The appointment came within days of his first entry to the Assembly. He was elected MLA for Thuraiyur, constituency 146 in Tiruchirappalli district, with 66,263 votes and a margin of 9,614 -- his first election to the Legislative Assembly. He was born in 1985 in Manachanallur, also in Tiruchirappalli district.
He represents the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
